School reunions are wierd things.
On Saturday evening I spruced myself up, braced myself and went to mine.
At the risk of giving my age away to the more mathmatically gifted amongst you, this reunion was to celebrate the 30th year of freedom from formal education.
Of course, my last mental picture of my fellow class-mates was as fresh-faced, if slightly spotty, sixteen year olds.
But the room in the local rugby club was full of over-weight, balding, middle-aged guys and middle-aged mums in sensible shoes and cardies.
I didn't go to school with all these old guys surely ???
But on closer inspection you would occasionally catch a glimpse of that sixteen year old kid you remembered.

Memories were shared and good times were relived and recalled with gusto.

It was great to see them all again after so long.

Troubled times...

I'm STILL not able to use 20six properly.

I can log in now, this took me two weeks of occasional effort.

But my main gripe is the message "You need a password to view this blog"

WHY do I need to enter a password just to VIEW my blog when I've logged in already ??

I'm not knocking the place, I love it.

This Saturday I...

...went to Brighton.
It was a lovely day, well, a lovely by English standards that is !!
Here we are leaving home at 10:00.

Saturdays journey was primarily to get all of us a hair cut.
That's me, K and H my youngest daughter. Strange as it may seem, it's perfectly normal in our household to do a 100 mile round trip to get ya' hair cut.
K, my partner, has never been happy with her hair cut. No matter where she tried or how much she paid,  it never ever seemed to hit the mark. Girls, I guess you'll be able to sympathise here.
She's now found a salon and a stylist that gets it right everytime. Terry at Trevor Sorbie, your a genius.
So, it's worth every penny of the trip, the price of the car park, the petrol, the time and the effort getting there.
Traffic was heavy and slow getting into Brighton, a hotel on the sea front at Hove that was in the middle of being renovated had collapsed, so traffic was being diverted all over the show, it didn't unduly delay us, just frazzled my nerves a little sitting in a pointless queue.
Finally parked up in our regular carpark...

we headed for the salon.
Not being up for paying out £65 for a haircut, I tootle up the road to the North Laines and get a reasonable cut in  Clippers for £8.50. BARGAIN.
After 20 minutes of snipping and trimming and a dollop or two of B&W, I'm sporting a new hair cut and am heading back to Trevor Sorbie to pick up the ladies.
With 35 minutes to kill, I decide to stop in the park at the Pavilion Gardens Cafe next to the Brighton Pavilion

and take a seat at a table on the patio, ordering myself a large coffee and a home-made slice of shortbread.

The sun was shining, the birds were singing... heavenly.
After 25 minutes sitting and watching the world trundle by, I pop through to the salon and collect my ladies beofre unleashing the car from the carpark and heading back home.
We're currently redecorating the living room at Chez Pixel and we take a little detour in to Homebase for supplies.

After loading a trolley with three tins of Dulux paint and a new paintbrush or two, it's back home to get cracking with the decorating.
I spent the rest of the weekend doing...

and...

I'm now back at my desk enjoying the rest !!!!
Bank Holiday weekend, what, you mean there was a Bank Holiday ????

One of life's little pleasures...

Not being a football fan, or soccer
fan for any US blog readers, I successfully managed to exorcise myself
of that particular obsession years ago after spending much of my formative
years following Portsmouth FC fruitlessly around the country, I know enjoy
a game or two of baseball.

Having dismissed the game as being nothing
more than "just grown up rounders" I now love sitting in the
cheap seats at Turner Field on a balmy sunny evening watching a good game
of baseball with a beer and a bag of ball nuts.

Getting hooked on baseball kind of crept
up on me whilst travelling around the USA with a previous job.

Sitting in a hotel room of an evening
or more usually over a long, homesick weekend, I would inevitably end up
watching some game or other on the TV with a beer and a box of Dunkin Donuts.

After skitting all over the US on business
and pleasure my family and I fell in love with Georgia, and in particular
the North Georgia Mountains, and we've ended up following the 'home' team,
the Atlanta Braves.

When we're in the US taking our annual
holiday, we always try to catch as many games as we can, last year managing
to catch three home games at Turner Field too !!!

Slowly getting used to the flow of the
game and the terminology etc has been a long job, but after following the
Braves for about five years now, I adore it.

It's always tough coming home after
the holidays and having to suffer long and painful withdrawal symptoms
of not being able to see ANY baseball whatsoever in the UK is tough.

But Channel 5 have started to push baseball
here in the UK and they screen a Sunday night game at 1:05 am. A bit late
I know, but better that than nothing at all.

Obviously they can't show any bias towards
a particular team, but it's so, so nice when they show a Braves game.

Last night... yup, it was the Braves
vs Washington.

So, out with the ol' blank VHS tape,
set up the timer and fingers crossed I'll have taped the whole game, normally
around 3 hours, for digesting over the next few nights.

I've avoided checking score too, so
I can enjoy the game.

"Take me out to the ball park....."
